* Any student who did not have their laptop checked on Tuesday in the laptop check during 2nd period needs to take care of that right away! You may come by the bookroom at lunch if your teacher has already submitted their form. Thanks!

* Students, we have a super fun project going on to celebrate Teacher Appreciate Week next week, but it is top secret! This project can help you with community service hours! Come by Student Activities if you’d like more information.

* Looking for community service hours? Polk Elementary needs your help! They will be having a minute to win it event this Friday, April 28th from 5 to 9. This will be a fun and easy way to earn 4 community service hours! If you are interested you can sign up outside of student activities.

* Come and join us at the Franklin Guitars' 2017 Spring Concert. The concert will take place Friday, April 28, at 7:30 pm in the Fine Arts Theater. Admission: $5.00 Students will present original music from their Franklin Guitars 2017 CD, which will also be available for purchase. In addition you will hear our Jazz Contest Music and some great covers of popular tunes. Check out the incredible talent that we have here at Franklin.

* Cougars, class elections will end today after lunch during 3rd period. You will have the opportunity to vote online for the students who will represent your class. You may vote online at franklin.voting4schools.com. Seniors may not vote.

* Attention all students interested in competing in speech and debate next year: UTEP will be holding a speech and debate workshop at the end of June. They will be offering training in debate, student congress, public speaking and oral interpretation of literature. If you are interested, see Mrs. Falco in W101 on the main campus for registration information. The deadline to be registered is May 22 but sections may fill up quickly.

* The Braden Aboud Foundation 5k run/walk is quickly approaching! Help the foundation sort race shirts this next Monday, May 1st from 4 to 6pm at the Braden Aboud Office.

These hours can be counted as community or NHS hours! Don’t miss out on this great opportunity!!

* Are you taking one of the EOC tests next week? You are allowed to read a book or magazine if you finish your test, so don't forget to stop by the library and check something out to pass the time should you finish before the 4 hour testing time is up. We have lots of great books for you to choose from! The library is open from 8:15-4:15 every day and is open during lunch.

* Students and Staff, Cougar Clawset took a siesta for a couple of weeks, but it will be open this Friday at lunchtime at main campus and at the 9th grade center. Say hello to spring and summer with our new dri fit and lightweight cotton tees. The school year will soon be ending, so don’t miss out!

* Seniors, graduation gown and announcements and all other things will be delivered to Franklin for pick up on May 5th. If you haven’t ordered your gown yet, please take care of it right away online or by calling Josten’s. The Parade of Graduates is earlier this year, and you MUST have your gown by then! There will be a small number of cap and gowns available for purchase on May 5th for $65 a set.

* Seniors! If you have a 4th or 8th period out you could get community service hours to coach and prepare the kids at Kohlberg for a speech festival. For more information look for the flyers around the hallways or ask Ms. Juarez in room W209 for more information.

* The following are the girls track results from the Area track meet: 1. Varsity 4x100m relay placed 6th 2. 300m Hurdles: Kara Marcantel placed 5th 3. Triple jump: Monica Simental placed 3rd, and qualified for the Regional Meet 4. Long jump: Kara Marcantel placed 4th , and qualified for the Regional Meet 5. Pole Vault: Sarah Stuart placed 4th , and qualified for the Regional Meet The girls will compete next at the Regional meet in Arlington, TX, on Friday and Saturday April 28th and 29th.

* Cougar golf is headed to regionals! Franklin Girls golfer Paige Vasquez (9th grade) is playing at the Regional Golf tournament in Arlington today & tomorrow. Franklin Boys golfers Alex Clarke (11th grade) & Fetty Hayek (12th grade) will be playing at the Regional golf tournament in Euless on Wednesday & Thursday Good luck to all 3!

* Congratulations to both the FHS Women's Varsity Choir and the FHS Varsity Mixed Chorus for their performances at the UIL Choir Concert and Sight Reading Contest. The Women's Chorus received a Superior Rating for their Concert Performance and an Excellent rating for Sight reading, while the Varsity Mixed Choir received a Superior rating for their Concert performance and an excellent rating for Sight reading at the 6A Level. Congratulations on a job well done!

* It’s National School Leadership Week! Today, we would like to thank the GT class for putting on a great fair showcasing many of our campus leaders to the middle school students at Brown and Hornedo yesterday. Organized by Evan Tame-Galvan and Carlos Romero, the fair was a success and will hopefully build future leaders at Franklin. Way to go GT students!

* It’s National School Leadership Week! Today we want to take a minute to congratulate the Student Council Executive Board. Last week, they received an award for one of the top nine best projects in the state for their Holiday Blessings Drive. Many of you cougars helped with this project, so we want to say thank you for making it such a success! Congratulations to all the officers for this award, especially Ashley Chong, who oversaw the project this year, and Angelica Castrejon who submitted the entry for the award.

* If you are attending the club field trip to Brown and Hornedo tomorrow, you should have turned in a permission slip to Mrs. Juarez this morning. If you are attending, there will be a very short informative meeting in Mrs. Juarez's classroom after school on Monday.

* Do you want to be a part of the Student Council Executive Board? The mandatory parent meeting will be held this Thursday, April 13th at 6 pm in the library. Candidates and a parent must attend to be eligible to run. Packets with election information will be distributed at the meeting.

* The junior and senior Prom is Saturday, April 22nd at Grace Gardens. With all the glamour and excitement of Hollywood, you will be the Stars of this year’s production of Hollywood Nights – the 2017 Franklin Prom! Tickets are now on sale!

* The following are the track meet results of the Franklin Invitational: 1. Freshman girls placed 2nd. 2. JV girls placed 2nd. 3. Varsity girls placed 4th. The District meet started yesterday with the Pole Vault event, at Eastwood High. The meet will continue today and tomorrow!

* Congrats to the Freshman Boys and Varsity boys for winning the Franklin Invite, our JV finished a solid 2nd. Good luck to all levels competing in the District Championships this week at Eastwood.

* The following are the results of the District track meet, day one: JV Pole Vault: Rachel Allen placed 1st Varsity Pole Vault: Sarah Stuart placed 2nd. Sarah's performance qualifies her for the Area Meet in Wolfforth, Texas, Friday, April 21, 2017. The girls track team will compete today (Day 2), at Eastwood High School.

* The Franklin Concert Bands and Focus Winter Guard have both just completed their competitive seasons. Championships, April 1 Franklin Symphonic Band - 2nd Division on stage performance, 1st Division, Sight Reading - UIL Region Contest - April 4 Franklin Wind Symphony - 1st Division on stage performance, 1st Division, Sight Reading - UIL Region Contest - April 6 With the first division in Stage Performance and Sight Reading and their First Division in Marching Band , The band earned a Sweepstakes trophy for the year! * Do You Need Community Service Hours? The Franklin boys and girls track team will be hosting a track meet on Friday April 7th and Saturday April 8th. Volunteers are needed to help at this event. Come out and help and earn some hours. On Friday report to the track after school, and on Saturday report to the track at 8:00 am. If you have any questions, see Coach Brooks or Coach Aguilar.

* Students ~ If you have been unsuccessful on an EOC (STAAR) Algebra 1, Biology, or US History exam in the past, please see your counselor or visit the FHS website for information on opportunities for intervention. Assistance has started!

* Thank you to everyone who attend Mr. and Miss Franklin last night to support the senior class. Congratulations to Victoria Marquez, the new Miss Franklin and Carlo Spalloni, the new Mr. Franklin!

* It’s National School Leadership Week! Today we are continuing to honor all of the club presidents and team captains. If you are the president or captain of your organization, please come by Student Activities right now on the main campus to pick up a surprise gift!
* Attention all students: There will be a MANDATORY laptop check on Tuesday April 25, 2017 during 2nd period. We are NOT checking for damages, just that you have your computer. Please make sure to bring it next Tuesday!
* Seniors, graduation gown and announcements and all other things will be delivered to Franklin for pick up on May 5th. If you haven’t ordered your gown yet, please take care of it right away online or by calling Josten’s. The Parade of Graduates is earlier this year, and you MUST have your gown by then! There will be cap and gowns available for purchase on May 5th for $65 a set.
* Seniors! If you have a 4th or 8th period out you could get community service hours to coach and prepare the kids at Kohlberg for a speech festival. For more information look for the flyers around the hallways or ask Ms. Juarez in room W209 for more information.
* You are invited to see the Nationally Recognized and Award Winning Franklin Flag Team in performance today April 21 during lunch in the 9th grade center gym. We will have information on upcoming auditions. This is your opportunity to see an awesome performance and get information about auditioning to be part of the Franklin Flag Team. This group is part of the Star of the West Marching Band and performs for thousands of people throughout the school year.
