Hello My Name Is...

Laura Strelzin Bagley

About Me:

Welcome!  I am a native El Pasoan and I feel very strongly about positively impacting our community and Franklin High School.  I am involved in numerous organizations and in the school district.

Professionally, I am a History teacher at Franklin High School since 2001 and chair of the Social Studies Department.  It was an honor to be selected as Franklin’s Teacher of the Year in 2010- 2011 and was top five for the El Paso Independent School District Secondary division.  Additionally, I have served as a Class Sponsor and served on the Campus Instructional Leadership Team.  I am currently a member of the Campus Improvement Team and a National Honor Society sponsor.  I have been a Social Studies Curriculum writer for EPISD from 2005-2013 and have coordinated the curriculum and common assessments for the U.S. History teachers throughout the school district.  Recently, I was nominated by our principal, Carla Gasway, as an Outstanding teacher for the Humanities of Texas in 2014-2015.  Out of 500 teachers who applied, I am honored to be one of thirteen teachers in the state to receive this award.

As a member of the first graduation class of Franklin High School in 1997, it has been rewarding to return to the school as an educator and mentor.  I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Texas Tech University in 2000 and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership Foundations from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2004.

Personally, I have been a member of the Junior League of El Paso, Inc. since 2007.  I served on the Leadership El Paso class of 35 as a representative of the Junior League of El Paso, Inc.  I am a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where I serve as Eucharistic Minister and have taught Catechism for 15 years.  I have served on the Board of the El Paso Opera and been a member of the Opera Guild, and the Plaza Starkeepers.

It is a pleasure to be an educator and my honor to teach at the school that fostered my education.
