Hello My Name Is...

Laura Strelzin Bagley

About Me:

Welcome!  I am a native El Pasoan and I feel very strongly about positively impacting our community and Franklin High School.  I am involved in numerous organizations and in the school district.

Professionally, I am a History teacher at Franklin High School since 2001 and currently chair of the Social Studies Department.  It was an honor to be selected as Franklin’s Teacher of the Year in 2010- 2011 and was top five for the El Paso Independent School District Secondary division.  Additionally, I have served as a Class Sponsor and served on the Campus Instructional Leadership Team.  I am currently a member of the Campus Improvement Team and a National Honor Society sponsor.  I have been a Social Studies Curriculum writer for EPISD from 2005-present and have coordinated the curriculum and common assessments for the U.S. History teachers throughout the school district.  In 2015 I was a flexbook writer for the district as well as in 2017.  I was also nominated by our former principal, Carla Gasway, as an Outstanding teacher for the Humanities of Texas in 2014-2015.  Out of 500 teachers who applied, I am honored to have been one of thirteen teachers in the state to receive this award.

As a member of the first graduation class of Franklin High School in 1997, it has been rewarding to return to the school as an educator and mentor.  I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Texas Tech University in 2000 and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership Foundations from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2004.

Personally, I have been a member of the Junior League of El Paso, Inc. since 2007.  I served on the Leadership El Paso class of 35 through the Greater Chamber of El Paso as a representative of the Junior League of El Paso, Inc.  I am a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where I serve as Eucharistic Minister and have taught Catechism for 16 years.  I have served on the boards of the El Paso Opera and been a member of the Opera Guild, and the Plaza Starkeepers.  I enjoy being involved in our community and I hope to bring this mentality to my students.

I am married to Beau Bagley, sports director at Channel 9 and have a beautiful new baby girl named Brooke Leigh Bagley.  I cherish moments with my family but my students are also my family and a priority of mine.

It is a pleasure to be an educator and my honor to teach at the school that fostered my education.
