AFJROTC and MISSION STATEMENT

MEMORANDUM FOR Incoming and Returning Cadets

SUBJECT:  Welcome to Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) Detachment, TX-9410

Welcome to TX-9410, Franklin High School’s award winning AFJROTC unit.  You have joined a select group of students who represent themselves and Franklin High School with honor and distinction.  AFJROTC is not just another high school class.  It is a program focused on developing students into citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.  By providing special opportunities in education, leadership and community service, AFJROTC instills discipline, respect for authority, confidence and a sense of accomplishment.  Cadets who commit themselves to the program also develop high morale and camaraderie with their peers.

AFJROTC is not a basic military training course and you will not incur any military service obligation by enrolling or participating in any of its programs.  The knowledge, skills and abilities you learn in class will benefit you in life no matter what you choose to do after high school.

AFJROTC is your program.  While in the Corps you will learn about aerospace science, history, management, leadership, financial literacy and other diverse topics. In addition, you will have the opportunity to plan, lead and participate in numerous co-curricular activities mentioned throughout the Cadet Guide.    Examples of these are: armed and unarmed drill, saber guard, CyberPatriot computer defense team, Academic Bowl team, Kitty Hawk Air Society, field trips, physical fitness, model rocketry, awards assemblies, military balls and community service projects.  You will also have the opportunity to participate in competitions and learning activities with other JROTC units during and outside of the school year.

As instructors, we are committed to your development as students and citizens.  We are retired Air Force commissioned and noncommissioned officers who have gone through a rigorous screening process and are certified by the Air Force to teach aerospace science and leadership education.  We will also teach you about Air Force traditions, customs and courtesies, and standards for conduct and appearance.

Remember, AFJROTC is your program.  As instructors, we will provide oversight and guidance.  We will help you become good citizens who understand the importance of leadership, followership, accountability, discipline and teamwork.  Ultimately, however; the success of the program and corps depends upon you.  Take charge and meet the challenge!  You will be glad you did.
